Mountain Camp
By Lizzy Albinson

I have been going to Mountain Camp for three years and I’m going again this summer! The first time I went I was seven years old. It’s an overall great experience. Where else do you get to swing on giant ropes and go on the zip line? The view from the lake is beautiful and you can see all of the tall trees scattered throughout the forest.

We sleep in wooden cabins that are brown and have big, green screen windows. The beds are wooden bunk beds. The best thing about the cabins is that you are basically sleeping outside. The counselors are really nice. When you are a bit homesick they are comforting. I see the same ones year after year. There are a lot of nice kids that go there and it’s really nice to make new friends. I hope I see some of my friends that I met last time and I hope I make some more new friends this year.

One of the best activities is the polar bear swim. You wake up really early in the morning and it’s freezing cold outside. You sleep with your swimsuit onand go down to the lake and go swimming. The water is really warm like a hot tub, but when you get out the air is co-o-o-lllld! You have to swim to the floating dock, and stand on top of it and wait for everybody to stand there and you have to say something like, “Brrrrr I’m Cold!” If you do the swim you get your name in a raffle and you might win a free polar bear stuffed animal. Then you get hot chocolate until everyone else wakes up and comes for breakfast.

The overnights are awesome! You have to kayak across the lake to the campsite. You take your sleeping bag and sleep under the stars. After you pick the comfiest spot, you roast marshmallows and sing camp songs. Each day ends with campfire where there are skits and songs. After a while, you have to get really quiet and you start quietly whistling instead of clapping. About thirty minutes after that you go back to your cabin and get ready for bed and then the whole day starts again!

I love Mountain Camp and I hope I go there again and again and again!
