Super Tech Camp
By Jake Chiang, Saint Mark's School, 6th Grade
Super Tech is the best camp I have ever been to. This year will be my third year attending and it never gets old. I have done many fun and exciting things like making programmable robots, doing clay animation, and making and launching rockets. The instructors are all really great because they help you with whatever you need and they are really cool. Along with these projects, there are fun games to do. Each year there is always a lot of water fun! For example, one day we had a big water slide, another day a huge water fight with the teachers, and another day a water relay race. During recess and lunchtime, you can sometimes play video games or go on the computer. Also, there is a field trip to Marin Lego Engineering Center. Each day you get to all this amazing stuff!

My favorite activity is clay animation. For this project you get a camera, computer, paper, clay and if you want, a partner, to make a movie. To start out, you make characters and objects for your movie out of clay and paper. Then you can start making your movie! After you are done with the animation, you can add titles, credits, sounds, voices, and special effects. My animation last year was a two-minute film I made with a partner about people jumping out of an airplane. Another one of my favorite activities is rocket making. In rocket making you either make the standard rocket if it is your first time, or you can choose a different rocket if you have attended Super Tech previously. If it is your first time doing Super Tech, an instructor will go through each step with you. If not, then you do it on your own. When you are done making your rocket you get to decorate it using paint, markers, and pencils.

In robot making you first build a robot out of legos with help from an instructor. When you are done you can change it and add other cool things to it. Next, you get to program it do a challenge such as following a line, doing a course or pushing cans.

On the last day, parents and friends are invited to come and watch the rockets go off, see all the animation movies, and a demonstration of the robots. It is a great time to show your work! Super Tech is a fantastic camp and in it you never get tired of all the fun things. I hope to see you there this year!
