Camp Winnarainbow
By Terra Clark, White Hill Middle School, 7th Grade
Every summer I go to my favorite camp, Camp Winnarainbow. To me
it’s not just a camp, it’s a home filled with great experiences and people
I will never forget. We wake up to the sound of the conch shell
and walk out of a huge Teepee filled with campers our own age. The
whole camp gathers for a morning singing circle and enjoys breakfast
in the forested, outdoor kitchen. The morning whizzes by, filled with a morning
reading from Wavy Gravy, energizing warm-ups to start the day, announcements,
and finally the time where the counselors take their unique skills and teach us
things like walking on stilts, uni-cycling, songwriting, drama, juggling, art, and
much more. After the long, fun morning, we have lunch. I always look forward
to the big, fresh meals, and most of all, the salad bar. I walk back to my teepee
with my new camp friends and start the afternoon when we have free time. I
love the variety of options that we have in the afternoon like joining more classes,
going to the huge costume barn, walking along the creek, taking the shuttle
to the lake, or just wandering around the beautiful, scenic camp.
Finally we gather in the big, late day singing circle and begin a night filled with
teepee time, dinner, and fun events such as a the dance, costume party, talent
show, or fire circle. Camp Winnarainbow is a place where you walk away with
new skills, meet great people and friends, and take a wild break from everyday
life that you will never forget. Most of all, Camp Winnarainbow is a place
where you can be yourself. I can’t wait to go back this year!
