My story from Marin Youth Performers at 142 Throckmorton

By Russell Wirth, 9th grade, Tam High School

To grace the stage at 142 Throckmorton Theater is a dream come true for many young aspiring actors and actresses. Because there is NO audition for this camp, that dream is so much easier to achieve! With its phenomenal, accredited staff, historical stage and intimate seating, this camp is a place to either try out, or hone, your acting skills. During the school year, the Marin Youth Performers fill the theater with hilarious musical comedies and intense dramas. When summer hits, Throckmorton changes into Mill Valley’s number one Summer Acting Camp. With the theme this year, “Broadway Rocks!”, campers will spend their day growing and developing their acting, singing, dancing, and learning stage managing skills. As with the bigger shows in the school year, the campers will appreciate the small, collaborative groups that work together to come up with ideas for the show. The campers will create a strong bond, a bond that will last after camp is over. Whether you are a first time participant or a returning star, come to Throckmorton Theater camp this summer to act, share many laughs, and put on a great show!

Under the encouraging guidance of Steven Hess, campers develop their character, through a series of acting techniques, scene study, improvisation and games. You will also work with Jonathan the music Director. He will teach you how to read music, will coach you on using your voice, how to sing harmony and solos. Bidalia, or affectionately called Bea, is the choreographer. She will help even those with two left feet to learn and conquer the dance routines and have fun doing it. Throughout the two weeks, not only do you learn your lines and create an interesting character, but more importantly you will gain self confidence, have fun, find self-respect, and create strong friendships.

142 Throckmorton Camp is a terrific camp with an incredible staff and awesome campers. Every year, there are new people and new challenges. After the two weeks, they leave a whole new person filled with the knowledge of acting. They can act, sing, dance, speak, and perform like the actors on Broadway because of Steven, Jonathan, and Bea. This camp is not a “Hit or Miss,” it’s a Bull’s-Eye. I love Throckmorton Summer Camp, and I look forward to participating this summer!
