Image of Gavin Newsom posed with a group of our FastForward reporters Positioned at the front of a room full of chairs and gazing eyes, he looked fully at ease, oozing a humble sort of confidence built over years of public experience. A cardboard image of his new book “Citizenville” appears in the background, where Gavin Newsom, Lt. Governor and former mayor of San Francisco, sits down to discuss his new book and larger political opinions about technology, governing and what it means to be a citizen in this country.

On first encounter, Newsom is a rather imposing figure. Standing at six feet, three inches, dressed in a sports jacket, unbuttoned collar, and slicked-back hair, he could be at home on a movie set instead of the lieutenant governor’s office. But in a lot of ways, Newsom personifies the California spirit.
