FastForward has been publishing kids’ writing for two decades. We strive to provide an outlet for kids who wish to be engaged in today's media. We accomplish that by publishing a monthly magazine that is written entirely for kids (and their families), by kids and about kids. Our writers are between the ages of 8 and 18-years-old. Our reporters also conduct interviews which we broadcast on public access television. Our reporters have interviewed many celebrities and leaders in film, politics, sports, fashion and the media. These have included General David Petraeus, actors Harrison Ford, Dakota Fanning, Jerry Seinfeld, SF Giants stars Barry Bonds and Buster Posey, actor/director Spike Jonze, Pixar directors Andrew Stanton and Brad Bird, Skywalker Sound producers, local news anchors Cheryl Jennings and Dan Ashley, and many more!
FastForward also provides journalism and creative writing classes. In summer, we hold our famous summer program, where students visit studios, newsrooms and companies to conduct interviews and write stories for the print ’zine and this web site. We also conduct classes in broadcast journalism where kids learn how to make their own television segments.
